About

Charity Mission

Dr. Bright believes strongly in giving back to his community. He volunteers and has performed hundreds of free surgeries for the uninsured at Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Community Clinic.  He serves without pay on the board for the Florida State University’s College of Medicine, and also spends a week each year without pay as an examiner for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, as an oral examiner making sure that the surgeons who are board certified meet ethical and quality standards. He has donated literally thousands of dollars to numerous charities, including the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Foundation,  the Florida State Medical School, and Generation Play. Generation Play is a project Dr Bright founded when he was President of the Florida Orthopedic Society. The Society’s annual meeting was usually held in Orlando and included a day of golf, but when Dr Bright was President he found that our community was in need of a handicapped accessible playground. He moved the annual meeting to Sarasota, raised $250,000, and had the surgeons come help build the first of its kind playground for handicapped, adults, and children at Laurel Park.
It has been proven that those who give away something of value feel more happiness than they would if they spent the same amount on themselves. In this way Dr. Bright feels blessed that he has been given this ability to give back.
